Makes about 100 small wafers.
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
3/4 cup toasted benne (sesame) seeds
1 egg
3/4 cup cooking oil or butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
Cream the butter and sugar. Beat the egg and add to the mix. Sift in the flour, baking powder, and salt, and add the benne seeds. Drop a teaspoon at a time onto a greased cookie sheet, leaving enough room between each cookie for the dough to spread apart. Bake at 325 degrees for just a few moments. The bennes will cook quickly into a transparent wafer. Allow to cool 1 minute before removing from the pan.
